Maha to offer govt land free for new Kendriya Vidyalayas

Nagpur: Maharashtra will grant govt land without any premium or revenue charges to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) for establishment of new schools across the state, as per a govt resolution issued by the revenue and forest department on Wednesday. The decision stems from a cabinet resolution in April and covers all Kendriya Vidyalayas that have received prior approval from KVS, New Delhi.The policy follows Union cabinet approving 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas nationwide, with some to be located in Maharashtra. After this, KVS requested the state to transfer identified govt land in Akola and Mouze Nachane in Ratnagiri district either free of charge or at a nominal rent for the new schools.The resolution authorises transfer of 2.50 hectares in Ratnagiri district to KVS to build a Kendriya Vidyalaya. Details for land allocation in Akola are still pending.The state has specified that the land will be provided entirely free of charge to KVS, with certain conditions. Although the land will be free from occupancy premium and revenue charges, KVS will not own the land. The allocated land remains govt property and cannot be sold or transferred by KVS. The state has stipulated that it can only be used for the designated purpose of operating a Kendriya Vidyalaya.In addition to the Ratnagiri allocation, the govt has established a general policy for Kendriya Vidyalayas. Wherever KVS requests govt land for a school that has received prior approval, and the identified govt land is available without any encumbrances, it shall be transferred to KVS under the same conditions, with possession rights, free of premium, and free of revenue.
