Nagpur: A couple of days after armed youths went on a bike-smashing rampage in Mahal, police investigations revealed a startling trigger behind the violence — the alleged mastermind was enraged after his girlfriend failed to send him a routine "good morning" message.
Ganeshpeth police on Thursday arrested prime accused Mangesh Gaware, 25, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four. Earlier, Rishabh Khare, Swaroop Dongre, and Akash Borat were arrested, while four minors were also rounded up for their role in the vandalism.

Police said Gaware, who was earlier charged under the Gambling Act in 2017, confessed during interrogation that he became upset after not receiving the daily message from his girlfriend. Investigators said he first went to IT Park in an attempt to meet her, but returned disappointed when she did not turn up.
As per police, Gaware later reached the locality where she resides and, along with his associates, allegedly went on a destructive spree late Tuesday night. Armed with an iron rod, the group damaged at least seven parked motorcycles, creating panic in the Mahal area.
The incident, first reported as a case of organised vandalism, is now being viewed by police as an act of impulsive rage that escalated into coordinated violence. Gaware faces charges of mischief, attempt to create terror, and criminal conspiracy.
