‘Dead’ woman alive case: Shivani’s dad and brother allege assault by police
Buldhana/Jalgaon Jamod: The Shivani Kalmekar case in Buldhana district has taken yet another dramatic turn after father and brother of the woman, who was earlier presumed dead and was later found alive, accused the police of physical assault to force them confess to the crime which they had not committed. The duo also accused the police of demanding 5 lakh.In a video statement, Shivani's father Bapurao and brother Ajay claimed they were forcibly taken by the police to a forest and subjected to physical abuse to extract a false confession. They also alleged that when they refused to admit to the crime, they were beaten with sticks and subjected to physical assault. The father and son also claimed that they were asked to pay 5 lakh in exchange for relief in the case.Meanwhile, the inquiry into the matter has been assigned to deputy superintendent of police Manisha Kadam from Deulgaon Raja. Speaking to TOI, she said preliminary inquiry has been initiated and statements of all concerned individuals are being recorded. "The inquiry will be completed within three to four days, and a report will be submitted to senior officials," she said.A station house officer (SHO) and a crime branch officer have reportedly been suspended for negligence.
