Day 1: NMC collects Rs44,930 as garbage user charges
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday launched collection of house-to-house garbage user charges and collected Rs44,930 from citizens on the first day.
With a view to motivate property owners to pay the user charge, mayor Nanda Jichkar, standing committee chairman Pradip Pohane, ruling party leader Sandip Joshi, health committee chairman Virendra Kukreja, water works committee chairman Pintu Zalke, Laxmi Nagar zone chairman Prakash Bhoyar, corporator Reeta Mulay and other corporators paid the mandatory fees for garbage collection.

Following a gazette notification, the NMC will levy Rs60 per month on residential properties as user charge for doorstep garbage collection. Subsequently, the NMC started the drive in all 10 zones from Thursday, said NMC’s health officer (sanitation) Dr Sunil Kamble.
The health department has formed special teams in all 10 zones for collection of user charges. The employees will visit every house, collect user charges and also issue receipts, said Dr Kamble. He said citizens to pay the user charge and also ask for receipts.
Dr Kamble appealed to citizens to help the civic body keep the city clean and segregate dry and wet garbage before handing over it to the NMC’s garbage collection vehicles.
