Bhiwapur police seize 12 trucks in raid on sand mafia

Nagpur: Bhiwapur Police seized 12 tipper trucks and 99 brass of sand, total valued at Rs3.52 crore on Sunday.Acting on a tip-off, police conducted checks near Jichkar Hall in Bhiwapur limits and found all trucks the carrying sand far in excess of their licensed capacity. The seized vehicles include 12-wheel and 10-wheel tippers registered in Maharashtra.Cases were registered against 23 persons, including vehicle owners and drivers such as Prajwal Ambore, Rahul Birone, Swapnil Gautam, Kaif Sheikh and others. Four cases have been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, Mines and Minerals Act, Environment Protection Act and Motor Vehicles Act.The operation was carried out under the guidance of superintendent of police Harssh A Poddar and additional SP Anil Mhaske.
