Kuvempu varsity convocation on May 6

Shivamogga: Kuvempu University will host its 35th annual convocation on May 6 at Jnana Sahyadri campus in Shankaraghatta. As many as 79 meritorious students will be honoured with a total of 155 gold medals.Vice-chancellor Sharath Ananthamurthy on Monday said the ceremony features female achievers, with 68 women and 11 men securing top honours, while 29 students will receive 21 cash prizes.Honorary doctorate degrees will be conferred on three distinguished achievers during the convocation. Following official approval from the governor, the university named Konanduru Lingappa for his service in social and cultural sectors, KV Akshara for his contributions to the field of theatre, and prof HA Ranganath for his service to the education sector.The highlight of this year's academic excellence is Abhishek HM from the MA Kannada department, who secured a staggering 10 gold medals and two cash prizes. Other notable achievers include Raksha (MSc environmental science) with seven medals, Srushti R (MSc biotechnology) with six, and Sahana Ganesh Shet (MBA) and Sajana S (MA sociology), both securing five gold medals each.He said 163 candidates will be conferred PhD degrees, dominated by the science faculty with 84 researchers.Kuvempu University has announced that honorary doctorate degrees will be conferred upon three distinguished achievers during its 35th convocation ceremony scheduled for May 6. This came in response to the violence at the campus during a protest by NSUI activists last week.He also noted the university is coordinating with examination officials to expedite pending results and will provide regular updates via media bulletins, while briefly mentioning that a police investigation is under way regarding recent campus property damage during student protests.
