Chikkamagaluru to celebrate R-Day with Chaitrotsava flower show
Chikkamagaluru: The Republic Day will be a different affair in the Land of Coffee. The national festival will be celebrated with Chaitrotsava, a three-day flower show at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose District Stadium.
Apart from the flower show, women visiting the event can enjoy a variety of saris ranging from Mysuru silk to Ilkal saris, which will be on display.
An attractive arch made out of coffee by the Coffee Board of India, and an elephant model made out of lantana by tribals, will bid a warm welcome to visitors at the entrance to the event. The event is being organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, horticulture department, Chikkamagaluru Udyana Kala Sangha, and other departments to make R-Day more attractive and meaningful, said deputy commissioner NM Nagaraj.
The models of Sringeri Sharadambe, environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka, and Karnataka map will come alive during the thematic flower show. In addition, a model of the ICC Women's World Cup cricket team is being designed with colourful flowers.
Tourists visiting the stalls will have an opportunity to enjoy a variety of Malnad-style food and dishes from different regions. Farmers from different parts of the state will display a variety of horticulture crops and uncommon fruits and vegetables, and products of women self-help groups will also be displayed.
Replicas of animals and birds, and beautifully carved vegetables by professional artistes, will enthral the visitors.
On the second day, a dog and cattle show is planned, and school students will add more colour to the event by performing a variety of cultural events in the evening on all three days. The best-maintained estate park and a well-maintained park will be awarded on the occasion, said the DC.
This time, the event is planned on a bigger scale owing to the response to last year's event. Last year, nearly 3.5 lakh visitors visited the show last year. This time, more than 8,000 flower pots with a variety of flowers in different colours will be used to make the event grand.
District minister KJ George will inaugurate the show on Monday morning.
