MUMBAI: Two men were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a security supervisor to death and throwing him into Powai lake on Monday night. The police said that the accused-Darbej Khan (25) and Shakil Siddiqui (23) who are residents of Filterpada in Powai-attacked Shoyeb Khan (50) with a knife on the neck and chest. The two accused often went fishing at Powai lake although fishing is banned there. Shoyeb was a part of a new security agency that has been deployed to guard the lake since this month. An officer from Powai police station said that he had stopped the two men from fishing in the lake and, a few days ago, he had destroyed the nets which the two had cast in the waters. On Monday, around 10.30 pm, the accused entered a fishing boat anchored in the lake. "Shoyeb and three guards were in the boat. The two men attacked Shoyeb repeatedly with a sharp knife as he used to stop them from fishing," said deputy commissioner of police Vinayak Deshmukh. "They then threw an injured Shoyeb into the lake. His body was fished out on Tuesday afternoon."Before fleeing, the two stole cellphones from Shoyeb and the other three guards. The two, who were nabbed from their hideout in Filterpada, will be produced in the metropolitan magistrate's court in Andheri on Wednesday.
