Satara man arrested for sexually assaulting woman under false promise of marriage

Navi Mumbai: A 27-year-old civil engineer from Satara has been arrested by Kalamboli police for allegedly establishing a sexual relationship with a 30-year-old woman for over a year under the promise of marrying her as well as promising to take care of her minor son. Rajendra Kote, senior inspector of Kalamboli informed that, the accused Rohit Chavan was arrested on Tuesday from Satara within 12 hours after the woman registered an FIR on Monday. He was booked under BNS sections for sexual intercourse obtained through deceitful means, primarily a false promise to marry made without the intention to fulfill it and criminal intimidation. Inspector Kote said, "The complainant also hails from Satara but resided in Kalamboli after her marriage and has a 7-year-old son. Her marital life was disturbed as her husband was an alcoholic. Three years ago, the complainant and Chavan met in Satara at a marriage function at her friend's house where Chavan was also invited by her friend as he was her Facebook friend. The friendship between the complainant and Chavan blossomed into love relationship after which Chavan promised to marry her and take care of her son. She alleged that between Aug 2 last year and July 22 this year, Chavan had sex with her by taking her to lodges in Kalamboli, Vashi and also at an International hotel in Shirdi and at his other residence at Lanja, Ratnagiri. Recently, when the complainant learnt that Chavan was getting married to another woman, she questioned Chavan about his marriage promise, when he told her that as she is already married he cannot marry her and reneged for his promise. Hence, the complainant revealed her relationship with Chavan to his fiancee and her parents, Chavan allegedly threatened to kill the complainant and her son."
