Mumbai Maratha Quota Protest Live: Will continue to work for all communities, says Fadnavis
The Maratha quota protest, led by activist Manoj Jarange Patil, intensified in Mumbai on Tuesday as the sit-in at Azad Maidan entered its fourth day. Patil escalated his indefinite hunger strike by declaring he would stop drinking water. An estimated 35,000–45,000 supporters have gathered, causing severe traffic snarls and disruptions to bus services near CSMT. Despite repeated meetings, the Maharashtra Cabinet sub-committee has made no progress, prompting Patil to harden his stance.
Traffic diversions remain in place across South Mumbai, with Marine Drive, DN Road and P D’Mello Road worst affected. While train services are running, crowding is reported at CSMT and adjoining stations. Security has been stepped up with RPF and GRP personnel deployed. Educational institutions around Fort have switched to online classes. CM Devendra Fadnavis said the government was committed to the issue but could not move against constitutional provisions.

Mumbai Maratha Quota Protest Live: BMC appeals for cooperation with its staff at the protest site
BMC has appealed for cooperation at the Maratha protest site, stating that over a thousand personnel have been deployed to provide drinking water, sanitation, and other civic services at Azad Maidan and surrounding areas.
Protesters are urged to ensure that sanitation trucks, water tankers, and ambulances can move freely, to keep the provided toilets clean, and to use the supplied garbage bags for waste.
The civic body also noted that six teams are continuously carrying out fumigation to prevent mosquito and insect breeding.

Protest Facilities at Azad Maidan:
- A 24-hour medical help desk is operational at Azad Maidan for the large number of protesters.
- Thousands of protesters have availed of this medical facility.
- On August 31, 2025, alone, 577 patients received medical aid, with some referred to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
- BMC has arranged 25 water tankers to provide drinking water for the protesters.
- To prevent muddy conditions, five truckloads of gravel have been spread across Azad Maidan.

On the Maratha reservation issue, Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association, President Viren Shah says, "The Maratha reservation protest, which has been ongoing at Azad Maidan for nearly four days, is growing in numbers each day. While it is their right to protest, as traders, we also have a duty to highlight that our businesses are being affected. As the protest intensifies and more people take to the streets, it is causing significant inconvenience, for people trying to travel from one place to another."

Despite this, the group continues an indefinite fast. Traffic across South Mumbai, including Marine Drive and P D’Mello Road, remains severely affected, and schools shifted to online classes. Patil vowed to continue the stir until Marathas receive OBC quota reservation.
