Queen’s Necklace finally gets its golden glow back
Mumbai: The Queen’s Necklace has got back its golden glow, well almost. On January 26, as Mumbai celebrated Republic Day, the stretch of the century-old Marine Drive from Nariman Point to the Police Gymkhana near Girgaum Chowpatty was drenched in amber as 400 lights were changed to yellow LEDs.“We started on January 23 and around 400 lights have been changed. Around 200 remain. Out target is January 31 for changing all the lights from white to yellow,” said an official from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), the agency handed the job, adding that they are working only at night.Sena nominated corporator Avkash Jadhav, who has been pursuing the matter with the BMC, called this a victory for the common man. “The charm of the Queen’s Necklace was lost with the white LEDs. We welcome the move, although it has come very late,” said Jadhav.
