No ban on cutting fish at Vakola market, says Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai: Mumbai mayor Ritu Tawde dismissed rumours surrounding an alleged ban on fish cutting at the Vakola fish market, assuring Koli traders that the civic body has imposed no such restrictions and urging them to continue business "without fear."Visiting the Vakola fish market in the morning, Tawde interacted with Koli women fish vendors after reports circulating on social media and some media platforms claimed that the local civic administration had prohibited fish cutting activities at the market."There are no restrictions imposed by the municipal corporation on cutting fish at Vakhola or any other fish market in Mumbai. The Koli sisters and brothers should continue their work without worry," the mayor said.Tawde described the claims as misinformation and urged citizens not to believe unverified reports. She said the Koli community remains an integral part of Mumbai's identity as original inhabitants of the city, and assured them of full support from the civic administration.During her interaction with traders, several Koli women reportedly told the mayor that no official had stopped or interfered with their work. Tawde further assured them that in case of any obstruction, they could directly reach out to her office for immediate resolution.
