It takes not more than 45 minutes to commute this distance on normal days. The trains which left CSMT subsequently are also delayed.

The Mumbai civic body's transport wing BEST has moved in to fill the void created by suspension of suburban train services due to heavy rains by operating over 100 extra buses.

Mumbai's famed 'dabbawalas' today cancelled their delivery of over two lakh tiffins to office goers in the city in view of the disruption of suburban rail services. Dabbawalas, who had ventured out on their task yesterday, returned home only this morning after being stranded at railway stations.

Four persons were washed away in separate incidents in Mumbai following torrential rains since Tuesday, the police said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast "heavy to very heavy rains" in entire coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, here on Wednesday.

Just before the first light of dawn at 4:30 am, office goers stranded at their workplaces -- which got converted into makeshift dormitories for the night -- made their way to the Churchgate station in south Mumbai to reach home.

After a heavy downpour on Tuesday, rains continued to lash several parts of the city on Wednesday morning. Heavy showers were witnessed in parts of Malad, Kandivali, Andheri as well as parts of Thane.

Life in the eastern suburban town of Thane came to a standstill after all means of public transport - local trains and TMT buses came to a halt on Tuesday afternoon. While throughout the day, the city saw an overflow of water as two of its lakes spilled over, gusty winds and lashing rains made the evening an even difficult time for home dwellers and passerby alike.
