Maharashtra Local Body Election Results Live Updates: In a repeat of its emphatic performance in the Maharashtra assembly elections a little over a year ago, the BJP-led Mahayuti has registered a massive victory in the first phase of municipal council and nagar panchayat elections, tightening its grip on the state’s local bodies and dealing a fresh blow to the opposition MVA.

* Mahayuti dominance: The ruling alliance won 207 of 288 presidents’ posts across municipal councils and nagar panchayats that went to polls in two rounds on December 2 and 20; results were declared on Sunday.

* BJP leads the pack: The BJP emerged as the biggest gainer, winning 117 presidents’ posts, cementing its position as the single largest party in local civic bodies.

* MVA routed: The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi managed just 44 presidents’ posts, highlighting its continued slide since the assembly polls.

* Congress struggles: Once dominant in rural Maharashtra, Congress won only 28 civic bodies, with limited consolation from weaker showings by its allies.

* Pawar, Thackeray factions falter: Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) won seven posts, while Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) bagged nine, underscoring factional erosion.

In Maharashtra’s civic polls, the ruling Mahayuti has gained an early advantage, leading in 192 local bodies as vote counting continues.

Initial trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead in 107 bodies, while Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena leads in 48. The opposition Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is currently leading in 46 local bodies.

The Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP has swept the elections to 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats by winning 207 posts of presidents of local bodies on Sunday, restricting the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi to a collective tally of 44. The final figures were shared by the State Election Commission (SEC) in the night. According to the SEC, the BJP won 117 posts of municipal presidents, Shiv Sena won 53, and the NCP won 37 posts. The Congress bagged 28, the NCP (SP) seven, and Shiv Sena (UBT) nine. The parties registered with the SEC bagged four seats, while 28 seats of municipal presidents went to unrecognised registered parties. Five seats were won by Independents, the poll body said.
