Maharashtra Election Results Highlights: Devendra Fadnavis offers to resign from deputy CM post after poll results
Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 Live: The opposition INDIA bloc won the majority of constituencies in the state. Political heavyweights such as Nitin Gadkari, and Piyush Goyal won in their respective constituencies.
The NDA, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP, won 17 seats. The INDIA bloc, including Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar's NCPSP, Congress, won 30 seats. Congress emerged as the single largest party in the state, winning 13 seats.
Maharashtra, the second-largest state in terms of Lok Sabha constituencies numbered 48, went to the polls across five phases on April 19, 26, May 7, 13, and 20.
The voter turnout for Maharashtra was 61.33% for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, which was slightly higher as compared to the 2019 elections turnout for the state which was 60.79%.
The political climate in the state has been greatly elevated by recent party splits. Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), chose to realign themselves with the BJP. While their rivals, Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar of NCP, remained aligned with the INDIA bloc.
The factions led by Uddhav Thackeray within Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar within NCP are referred to as Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar), respectively.
In 2019 NDA consisting of BJP and then Shiv Sena clinched 41 seats while UPA was limited to 5 seats. While the tally was the same for NDA in the 2014 general elections UPA was limited to 6 seats.

Shiv Sena leader and Cabinet Minister Uday Samant acknowledged on Wednesday that the 'Mahayuti' alliance's performance in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections fell short of expectations. He stated that the Shiv Sena would analyze the reasons for the poor performance and take necessary corrective actions. Samant conceded that the delayed announcement of candidates and the change of nominees in some constituencies negatively impacted the ruling alliance's electoral prospects. The ruling bloc, comprising the BJP (9), the Shiv Sena (7), and the NCP (1), secured only 17 out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Speaking to reporters at the Shiv Sena headquarters in Thane city, Anand Ashram, Samant also mentioned that the performance report of all representatives from assembly constituencies within the Lok Sabha seats would be scrutinized, and the leaders of the Mahayuti constituent parties would take necessary action based on the findings. "We will soon find out as to where all we failed and take corrective measures," the Sena leader said, addressing the ruling alliance's suboptimal performance in the recently concluded elections. He attributed the opposition's success to their ability to create confusion among certain social groups, leading to communal polarization.

Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis took responsibility for the BJP's Lok Sabha tally decline from 23 to 9 seats in Maharashtra on Wednesday. He expressed his desire to resign from his post to concentrate on party activities in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections. "I take the responsibility for the result in Maharashtra. I am requesting the party leadership to relieve me from the responsibility in the government so that I can work full time for the party in upcoming assembly elections," Fadnavis stated.
With the state assembly elections just six months away, Fadnavis acknowledged his shortcomings and pledged to make every effort to overcome them. "The entire responsibility for this result is mine. I agree that I was lacking somewhere in all this and am going to make all efforts to overcome this shortcoming," he admitted.
Fadnavis reiterated his commitment to the party and his desire to dedicate himself fully to the upcoming assembly elections. Maharashtra Election Results 2024: BJP-led Mahayuti clinches seven out of 12 seats in Mumbai-Konkan belt
The Mumbai-Konkan coastal belt in Maharashtra stood firmly by the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance even as results in the rest of the state jolted the ruling allies. The coastal region, comprising 12 parliamentary seats, saw Mahayuti bagging seven.
The BJP triumphed in Palghar, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, and Mumbai North, while the NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, had a face-saver in Raigad where its leader Sunil Tatkare retained his seat.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde won Mumbai North West seat and retained his hold over Thane and Kalyan constituencies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
On the other hand, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena maintained its hold in Mumbai, winning three of the four seats it contested, but lost its former bastions of Raigad and Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg in Konkan.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections held in Maharashtra, out of the 17 women candidates fielded by major political parties, seven emerged triumphant, with the Congress party alone securing victories for four of its women candidates. One of the notable winners is Supriya Sule, who secured the Baramati seat for the fourth consecutive time, defeating Sunetra Pawar, the wife of her cousin and Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. The contest for the Baramati seat garnered significant attention as it marked the first instance of two members of the Pawar family competing against each other in their home territory. Sule, the daughter of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, defeated her sister-in-law by a margin of 1,58,333 votes, which is slightly higher than her 2019 general elections victory margin of 1,55,774 votes.

A meeting of the Maharashtra unit of the BJP began here on Wednesday, a day after the party won nine Lok Sabha seats in the state, where its tally dwindled by 14 as compared to the 2019 parliamentary polls. BJP suffered a significant setback in the Marathwada region, losing all four seats it contested in the Lok Sabha poll. Even Union minister Raosaheb Danve faced defeat in Jalna. Maharashtra Election Results 2024: "Will decide on PM candidate tomorrow," Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray
As the trend shows the INDIA bloc leading in the majority of seats in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Tuesday that the party will decide on the Prime Minister candidate tomorrow.
Holding a press conference here today, Uddhav said that TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has also been harassed by the BJP.
"The day our INDIA alliance was formed, we had decided that we wanted to end the dictatorship in the country and save the Constitution. We will decide on the PM candidate tomorrow. All patriots and all people who are harassed by them (BJP) will come with us. Chandrababu has also been harassed by the BJP government," he said.

Maharashtra Election Results 2024: Opposition's propaganda on Constitution responsible for unfortunate performance of NDA, says Fadnavis
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday blamed the opposition's "BJP will change the Constitution" propaganda for the loss of NDA candidates on several seats.
Virtually conceding the defeat, Fadnavis stated they will introspect and recover the loss in the upcoming Assembly elections.
"The unfortunate outcome of the results is that the opposition attempted to win the seats through its propaganda that we would change the Constitution. But in elections, the people's mandate has to be accepted as it is. We will do deep introspection and will recover our loss in the next assembly election," Fadnavis tweeted on X.
The senior BJP leader, however, said the people have strongly supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi in elections.

Maharashtra Election Results 2024: BJP's Udyanraje Bhosle clinches Satara LS seat in Maharashtra by margin of 32,771 votes
BJP candidate Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, won the Satara Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra by a margin of 32,771 votes on Tuesday.
In a closely contested fight, Bhosle polled 5,71,134 votes, while NCP (SP) candidate Shashikant Shinde got 5,38,363 votes.
Bhosale won the Satara seat on an NCP ticket in the 2019 general elections, but he later joined the BJP and lost to NCP's Shrinivas Patil in the by-election.
Though Satara was an NCP seat, the BJP managed to claim it during the seat sharing with its Mahyuti allies.

Shiv Sena's Shrirang Barne retained the Maval Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra by defeating Sanjog Waghere Patil of the Shiv Sena (UBT) by a margin of 96,615 votes.
Barne, a two-time MP from this seat that is spread over parts of Pune and Raigad districts, was seeking a third term. In June 2022, he shifted his loyalty to Eknath shinde when the latter rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray. In 2019, Barne had defeated Parth Pawar, the son of Ajit Pawar. This time, Barne polled 6,92,832 votes, while his nearest rival Waghere Patil bagged 5,96,217 votes. Madhavi Joshi of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) got 27,768 votes, while Rajaram Patil of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) received 14,003 votes. Another candidate Jyotiswar Bhosale of Baliraja Party got 10,879 votes. A total of 16,760 votes were polled in favour of the NOTA (none of the above) option.

All set to win from her traditional Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Tuesday said her party and the opposition's Maha Vikas Aghadi tried to uphold Maharashtra's pride in the elections.
Sule was leading over her nearest rival and sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar of the NCP by more than 50,000 votes in the eighth round of counting.
"We tried to uphold Maharashtra's glory, pride and culture in these elections. I am thankful to Baramati voters," Sule said even as counting was underway.
"Let bygones be bygones," she said, while adding that certain things that happened during the campaign did not befit the tradition of Maharashtra politics and this should not be repeated in the future.
Sule was leading over her nearest rival and sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar of the NCP by more than 50,000 votes in the eighth round of counting.

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said the Lok Sabha election results showed the situation was favourable in the country for political change, and added that the INDIA bloc leaders are likely to meet in Delhi on Wednesday to decide the future course of action. He, however, also said that the opposition bloc was not likely to form a government at the Centre. Addressing a press conference, Pawar said, "I spoke to Mallikarjun Kharge and Sitaram Yechury. The INDIA alliance meeting is likely to be held in Delhi tomorrow. Final decision is expected to be taken by this evening. Accordingly, I will be in Delhi." To a question who would be the next prime minister, he said, "We have not given it a thought."

Two-time BJP MP Heena Gavit on Tuesday lost to Congress's Gowaal Padavi by a margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes from the Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra.
Padavi, an advocate, polled 7,45,998 votes, while Gavit got 5,86,878 votes.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Ananda Koli got 10,644 votes. While Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) candidate Hemant Koli got 4081 votes.
As many as 14,123 voters pressed the NOTA (none of the above) option.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday claimed that the opposition's propaganda that the NDA would change the Constitution and the delay in announcing candidates cost the Shiv Sena and its allies some seats.
Talking to reporters, Shinde said the vote bank politics of the opposition had affected the NDA's performance.
"The opposition parties ran relentless propaganda that we would change the Constitution. We failed to clear the doubts among voters. Our losses are also due to vote bank politics," he said.
The chief ministers also attributed delays in announcing candidates in some seats to the setbacks in some constituencies.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut claimed on Tuesday that the INDIA alliance has exceeded the exit poll predictions and is set to secure 295 Lok Sabha seats.
