Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority grants Coastal Regulation Zone clearance for sanitation workers’ housing project
Mumbai: Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has granted Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for the housing project intended for sanitation workers, which is being developed under the ‘Aashray’ scheme at Cochin Street, Fort. BJP corporator Makarand Narwekar has urged BMC to expedite the implementation of this project, emphasising that it is aimed at ensuring dignified housing for sanitation workers in a timely manner.
The BMC submitted a proposal to the MCZMA for the redevelopment of Municipal Staff Colony No. 3, situated at Cochin Street and Kalikat Street in Fort. The proposal entails the construction of a ground-plus-nine-storey building on this plot, which spans an area of 489.14 square metres; the proposed height of the building is 29.30 metres.
“The primary objective of this project is to provide housing to sanitation workers, who play a pivotal role in maintaining the cleanliness and public health infrastructure of Mumbai city,” said Narwekar, adding that, “under this project, there is a proposal to construct 54 flats for sanitation workers, each measuring 238 square feet in area.”
