FIR against contractor after labourer electrocuted at construction site in Mumbai
Mumbai: Following the death of a 34-year-old labourer due to electrocution at an under-construction building site in Goregaon, police have registered an FIR against the contractor for negligence.
The deceased, Mohammad Hasnujuman Hussain, hailed from West Bengal and was given the task of lift pit breaking and core cutting at the site using a machine. Police said Hussain had not received any technical training in the use of the machine and no safety equipment was provided to him by the contractor, T Padi.
On May 16, while using the machine at the site, Hussain suffered an electric shock. He was rushed to a private hospital in Goregaon and then moved to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari where doctors pronounced him dead
During the probe, police visited the site and made inquiries. They learnt that the contractor had received a work order from an infrastructure company for breaking the temporary concrete foundation in the lift duct. The work order stated that the contractor would provide the workers with safety harness, safety shoes, helmets and other safety gear and that the contractor would be responsible if the workers suffered any injury. When the police examined the site, they found that the extension board provided to Hussain was damaged and the core cutting machine that he was using had exposed wires.
Police then registered an FIR against the contractor.
