EC should probe sudden increase in polling percentage: Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole

MUMBAI: MPCC president Nana Patole on Thursday asked the EC to probe the "sudden increase" in polling percentage across the state in the assembly elections.

"It is a very serious matter. Despite the fact that several organizations and individuals have expressed concerns over the sudden increase, the EC has maintained a discreet silence. It must explain to the people the reasons for the sudden increase," Patole said.

Patole had convened a meeting to review the dismal performance of the MVA in the assembly polls. MVA was mauled badly by the Mahayuti led by Eknath Shinde.

Besides Patole, the meeting was attended by Congress legislature party leader Balsaheb Thorat, CWC member Nasim Khan and senior party leaders.

Patole said that on the day of polling, at 5 pm, the polling percentage stood at 58.6, while on the same day at 11.30 pm, it was 65.02%, while on Nov 21, it was 66.05%.

"It was an increase of 7.83 per cent, which amounts to 76 lakh votes," he said.
