special CBI court
on Tuesday discharged
former Gujarat top cop
DG Vanzara in the
Sohrabuddin Sheikh
alleged
fake encounter case
.
The court also discharged Dinesh MN, an IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre. Their discharge comes two and a half years after BJP chief Amit Shah was granted similar relief in the case in 2014.
"Justice has been done by the judiciary," said Vanzara after the discharge.
Sohrabuddin was a gangster whom the Gujarat Police claimed had links with Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Vanzara was arrested on April 24, 2007, along with two other IPS officers Rajkumar Pandian and
Dinesh M N
in Sohrabuddin's encounter case. He was
granted bail in 2014> .
The CBI said Vanzara was from the start involved in a conspiracy to
murder Sohrabuddin> . In its chargesheet, the CBI claimed Sohrabbudin and Kausar Bi were allegedly abducted by the Gujarat Anti Terrorism Squad from Hyderabad and killed in a fake encounter near Gandhinagar in November 2005.
Following a Supreme Court order, the trial was moved to a Mumbai court. Prajapati was an accomplice of Sohrabuddin's and was killed in a similar operation in 2006.
