Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Shankar Prasad praised the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance’s performance, attributing the success to PM Modi’s governance and the work done by CM Fadnavis.
“In 26 municipal bodies across the entire Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has won. After 30 years, the BJP has achieved splendid victories in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, and in all the big cities. Where is Congress? Where has Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena gone?.. This entire victory is due to Prime Minister Modi's good governance and Devendra Fadnavis's work. A triple-engine government will now work in Maharashtra...Rahul Gandhi also knows that first in Bihar, Maharashtra municipal corporations and now in Bengal, we will win everywhere,” he said.
Maharashtra CM Fadnavis said the BJP’s 45 per cent vote share in the BMC elections reflected a decisive mandate, and noted that its tally was higher than Shiv Sena (UBT) despite contesting fewer seats.
Fadnavis spoke at a gathering of BJP workers a day after the alliance of the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 118 of 227 seats in the civic elections.
“Many people are saying that in 2017 (when the previous elections were held) we (BJP) had won 82 seats and now we have won 89, so is that really an achievement....in 2017 we contested 227 seats and won 82, whereas this time we contested only 135 seats and won 89,” he said.
“This clearly shows the strength of our mandate and the strong support we have received,” he added.
Calling it a “very happy moment,” he said that it had been the saffron party’s dream to become the single largest in Mumbai ever since it established its organisation in the city.
Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij said the public has rejected the politics of “false promises” and supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-focused agenda.
Reacting to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s “Jaichand” remark following the BJP’s landslide victory in the Maharashtra BMC elections, Vij pointed out that the BJP had already won Assembly elections in Haryana, Delhi, and Bihar, and has now secured victory in Maharashtra as well.
Vij added that the people have endorsed Modi’s politics of development.
It's our dream to get Shiv Sena (UBT) mayor elected; if God willing it will happen
BJP wants to mortgage Mumbai, won polls by betrayal; Marathi manoos won't forgive this sin
Betrayers can be bought through money, pressure, agencies and tactics, but loyalty is never for sale
Our responsibility is now greater than ever. Returning to power is our dream, and with God’s will, it will be fulfilled
Shiv Sena may have been targeted on paper, but no one can erase it from the hearts of the people
There is a clear difference between the BJP and us. Shiv Sena may have been targeted on paper, but no one can erase it from the hearts of the people
The BJP has developed a new model of good governance and development in the country. Today, people across India are embracing it wholeheartedly.
The results of the urban local body elections in Maharashtra were announced yesterday and the BJP achieved a historic victory
In Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra and one of the largest municipal corporations in the world, the BJP won for the first time in BMC elections
BJP won 65 seats in the 111-member Navi Mumbai civic body in 2026, improving its tally from six corporators in 2015, and securing power in the city for the first time. Observers attributed the BJP’s performance to forest minister Ganesh Naik, who led his team to a clean sweep in the civic polls in Navi Mumbai after years of political struggle.
In 2015, Naik dominated civic polls as a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which won 52 seats, and with the support of 10 Congress corporators and five independents, he ruled the city. The undivided Shiv Sena won 38 seats then. Experts said Naik continued to be a major force irrespective of his political affiliations for three decades.
Congress performed below its own expectations in the BMC elections and secured 24 seats, seven fewer than it had in 2017.The party mostly blamed the poaching of its ex-corporators, lack of expenditure compared to the governing parties and less media space among the reasons for not reaching its expectations.
The task before Congress is now to ensure that the elected corporators do not defect, as they did from the previous House, many of them to Shinde’s Sena. However, the party sought to boost the morale of its cadre by highlighting that, after eight of its ex-corporators of the 31 elected in 2017 had left, it was left with 21 ex-corporators, and taking that tally to 24 is a good sign for the party.
"This battle is not over yet. It will continue just like this until the Marathi person receives the respect they deserve!"- Shiv Sena UBT on 'X'.
"If Eknath Shinde had not become the Jaichand of Shiv Sena, the BJP would never have got a Mayor in Mumbai!
The Marathi people will remember Shinde as Jaichand," Sanjay Raut on 'X'.
“The real battle for the Marathi manoos’ loyalty was being fought in Central Mumbai. This is the Marathi heartland. The last bastion of the Sena (UBT) where it has not been defeated in the LS and assembly polls so far. The Sena (UBT) won the Lok Sabha South Mumbai seat and all assembly seats like Worli, Sewri and Dadar-Mahim. So the BMC elections were a litmus test for the Sena (UBT)-MNS combine. With the Thackeray cousins coming together, the Sena (UBT)-MNS combine retained their bastion and Mahayuti only managed to create a small dent,” a political observer said.
BJP takes control of city for first time, but needs Shinde sena for majority. 14 months after powering Mahayuti back to office in state, Fadnavis turns PM’s slogan ‘Modi hai toh...’ into a 3-d reality, winning elections to India’s richest civic body.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday welcomed the performance of the BJP-led Mahayuti in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections, saying that the alliance has received the trust and blessings of the people of the state.
"It is a matter of great joy that the Mahayuti alliance has once again won the trust and blessings of the people of Maharashtra," Goyal told reporters here.
He termed the MVA as "Maha Vinash Aghadi" and said that Uddhav Thackeray's party, as well as the NCP (SP) and Congress, have lost the people's trust.
"There is no place for negative politics," he added.
Goyal said that in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, there will be a stable administration after many years with a clear majority for the BJP and Shiv Sena.
"The people of Mumbai have given a befitting reply to the unethical alliance formed by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray," he said.
BJP emerged as the single largest party in many of the municipal corporations that went to poll on Thursday, also improving on its previous election tallies. Of the 29 municipal corporations that went to polls, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance was set to govern in 24 bodies. Congress emerged single largest party in two corporations and two other parties secured majority in two corporations. As the leads trickled in, CM Devendra Fadnavis said people voted for the BJP-led Mahayuti as they wanted honesty and development.
