MEERUT: An FIR has been registered in Hapur against the CEO and several officials of Cars24 - a used-car services firm - in connection with a fatal road crash allegedly involving a vehicle sold without transfer of ownership.
The case was lodged under BNS Section 318 (cheating) Sunday evening on the orders of a local court following a complaint by Vikas Kumar Tyagi, a resident of Hapur's Awas Vikas Colony.
Tyagi said he had sold his car through a Meerut-based Cars24 dealer. He said the company and its associated persons handed over the vehicle to another buyer without completing the mandatory ownership transfer process.
"I sold my car registered in 2011 to the dealer in Sept 2025 and got the payment receipt and other related documents. The dealer told me they will call me to the RTO officer for the transfer once the car is sold. On May 1, police informed me that a man had died in an accident involving my car," added Tyagi. He then found that the car was still registered in his name. He said despite approaching the company, no satisfactory action was taken, following which he moved court.
