Muslim woman gets death threats after undertaking Kanwar Yatra on Mahashivratri, files FIR

MEERUT: Tamanna Malik, a 27-year-old Muslim woman from Badanpur Basai village in Sambhal district, has filed an FIR after receiving death threats following her participation in the Kanwar Yatra this Mahashivratri.

Malik had attracted attention by walking the pilgrimage route in a burqa, carrying holy Ganga water to offer to Lord Shiva.

The foot journey began from Haridwar, with Malik heading towards her village to perform the ritual ablution. When her procession entered Bijnor on Friday evening, locals welcomed her by garlanding her and taking photographs.

More than 100 devotees accompanied her, chanting "Bol Bhole Bam" along the route. Police personnel were deployed to ensure law and order and facilitate the pilgrimage safely.

On Saturday morning, the group reached Amroha, where members of Hindu organisations praised Malik’s devotion. Despite the warm reception from local communities, Malik reported receiving threatening messages after her journey became public, prompting her to approach the police and file an FIR.

Married to a local farmer three years ago and mother of two sons, Malik said she had taken a vow before her wedding to undertake the Kanwar Yatra on foot if her marriage was solemnised and offer Ganga water to Lord Shiva on Mahashivratri.
