Three-month pregnant Sunitha (29) was brutally murdered inside her fourth-floor apartment in Vanasthalipuram’s Green City Colony. The accused, her ex-husband, allegedly stormed into her room around noon and attacked her, triggering panic in the residential complex.

Police said Devarakonda Mahesh traced Sunitha’s residential address through her social media account. He shifted to Hyderabad two months ago, stayed in a hostel, and allegedly conducted a recce of her apartment before executing the attack.

When police reached the apartment, Mahesh was still inside the flat. After allegedly attacking Sunitha, he had locked himself in the washroom. Officers surrounded the premises and negotiated with him before taking him into custody without further incident.

After entering the flat, Mahesh reportedly went straight to Sunitha’s bedroom and locked it from inside. Following a heated argument, he stabbed her multiple times, including on her head, leaving her critically injured in a pool of blood.

After divorcing Mahesh in 2024, Sunitha returned to India and remarried in early 2025. She had started a new chapter of her life in Vanasthalipuram and was living with her husband’s family. Police said her remarriage deepened the accused’s resentment.

Family members rushed to Sunitha’s room after hearing her screams and found her lying in a pool of blood. Her mother-in-law was on the terrace while her brother-in-law was in another room at the time. The fourth-floor apartment turned into a chilling crime scene within minutes.

Mahesh arrived with a bag containing two knives, a chainsaw and a bottle of petrol. Investigators said he came fully prepared, indicating premeditation. The petrol was later poured inside the room as he allegedly threatened to set it ablaze.
