Cook steals gold worth Rs 56L & Rs 5L to fund GF’s ‘lavish’ lifestyle, held
Shamli: A 25-year-old cook was arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 56 lakh and Rs 5 lakh cash from his transgender employer to impress his girlfriend, who also belongs to the transgender community, police in Shamli said on Friday.Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Bandar Zudda village in Saharanpur, worked as a cook for Azeem Ahmad in Goshala Road area in Shamli. On Oct 20, Kumar decamped with 35 tola gold jewellery and Rs 5 lakh cash.Ahmad initially hesitated to report the theft due to social stigma but later lodged a complaint after counselling by police. "Social concerns delayed the FIR, but assurance and sensitisation encouraged the victim to come forward," said Shamli SP Narendra Pratap Singh.Investigation revealed that Gaurav was in a relationship with his employer's housemate. He confessed to committing the theft to fulfil his partner's extravagant demands. An officer said there is no evidence of his girlfriend's involvement in the theft.Police recovered the stolen items and a case was filed against Kumar.
