7 FIRs against 6 Meerut bank managers

MEERUT: Uttar Pradesh police filed seven FIRs within a month against five bank managers in Meerut for allegedly depositing counterfeit currency totalling Rs 92,000 into the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) currency chest in Kanpur. The complaints were initiated by Gehlot (goes by this name only), RBI claim section manager, according to police sources.

Police said RBI found Rs 70,000 in fake currencies while scanning cash deposited by these banks, in addition to Rs 22,000 detected in the May 4 incident.

In his complaint, Gehlot highlighted the rise in counterfeit notes being reported by the Kanpur chest, exceeding permissible limits. "It is the RBI's responsibility to take legal action against perpetrators in such cases," he said.
