Speed radar cams to track traffic rule violators in Udupi
Mangaluru: Speeding on the national highways in Udupi just will attract penalty. Udupi police have deployed speed radar cameras across six key locations to crack down on reckless driving and prevent accidents.
If drivers exceed the limit, the cameras will capture the vehicle and registration plate, instantly alerting the police control room, and sends a traffic challan straight to the address of vehicle owners.
Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said speed radar cameras were installed on Karkala-Doopadakatte, Padubidre-Uchila, Kaup-Dandatirtha, Kota-Thekkatte, Gangolli-Trasi and Byndoor-Nayakana Katte stretches. The cameras will detect overspeeding, triple riding on two-wheelers, riding without helmets, seatbelt rule violation, using cellphones while driving, wrong-side driving and other violations. Speed limits have been fixed for each stretch of the highway as per the National Highways Authority of India rules, he addeds
The district control room will monitor the traffic movement and track the violations on a real time basis. Following this, the challans will be sent to the address of the owners. Those who receive the challans should pay the fine within seven days of its receipt, the SP said.
