MANGALORE: Thirthahalli in Shimoga district is all set to host a three-day `Krishi Mela' being organized by the Dharmasthala-based Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) from January 21.
A press release from L H Manjunath, executive director, SKDRDP, said the 29th edition of the event will have participation of villagers also. Last edition of the mela was held at Sirsi.
Manjunath said SKDRDP is the only agency apart from the University of Agriculture Sciences to hold an event of this scale on an annual basis. The Krishi Mela reaches out to the needs of small and tiny farmers, as well as women from economically weaker sections of society. The mela will showcase various agriculture extension activities and will provide a platform to provide agriculture technology to small farmers and financing them.
The mela will have exhibitions, demonstrations, seminars, film shows, entertainment, presentation of lifetime award for agriculture, and agriculture achievement awards. The directorate of field publicity, Government of India, will conduct film shows, as well a demonstration on mobile soil testing laboratory. The mela, to be held at Junior College ground, will have a display and sale of ornamental flowers and plants, the release said.
