Father Muller team restores forearm of NRI after severe acid burns
Mangaluru: The plastic surgery team at Father Muller Medical College Hospital successfully treated and restored the forearm of a 58-year-old NRI who sustained severe chemical burns after an accidental sulphuric acid spillage at his workplace in Dubai.He arrived with deep, extensive forearm injuries that required urgent specialised care. The plastic surgery department performed a series of advanced, staged procedures — repeated surgical debridements, VAC (vacuum-assisted closure) dressings, and definitive skin grafting — to salvage the limb and restore functional use.

The team comprised professors and consultant plastic surgeons Dr Aravind L Rao, Dr Satish Bhat, Dr Akanksha Rajpoot and Dr Karthik Aithal, supported by residents Dr Manasa, Dr Ragavi, Dr Chetna and Dr Aheesh.Anaesthesia support was provided by Dr Vishma (associate professor), Dr Karthik (assistant professor), Dr Synol, Dr Amit and residents from the department of Anaesthesia.The plastic surgery department also manages the Father Muller Rotary Skin Bank, which provides preserved donor skin for patients with major burns and traumatic skin loss. Such donations significantly improve healing outcomes and remain a lifeline for those with severe burn injuries, stated a release.
