Doctors celebrate jab with pics on WhatsApp

MANGALURU

: The

vaccination drive

that began at the Lady Goschen Government Hospital on Monday resembled more of a celebration as most people were excited about taking the jab and sharing

pictures

on

WhatsApp groups

or uploading it as their status.

Dr Durgaprasad MR, the medical superintendent, got the first jab. He was under observation for 30 minutes. “It is safe and I advise everyone to take the vaccine and develop immunity. The pictures of me being vaccinated were shared in all our groups and similarly, senior medical officers and staff shared their pictures,” he told TOI.

Dr Balakrishna Rao N S, RMO and pediatrician said, “I am diabetic. Despite that I decided to take the shot. It is to be on the safer side. I’m confident that it will not cause any harm. Several senior staff members have come forward to get themselves vaccinated so that others are motivated. When

Covid

was at its peak, most of us were worried. In nearly 60-70 of the deliveries we conducted, mothers were Covid-19 positive, but all babies were negative. We have been waiting for this day.”

Meanwhile, Harinakshi, junior nursing officer and vaccinator said, “I was happy when Matron Devaki G gave my name for this job. Since the first shot was to be administered to the medical superintendent, I was a bit tense, but I am happy that everything is going well. We open the vials only when 3 -4 people arrive so that dosages are not wasted. The response has been positive and people have started sharing pictures of them being vaccinated on social media in an attempt to spread awareness,” she said.
