Dinesh Gundu Rao: Govt to tie up with med colleges to boost dist hosps

Mangaluru: Health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao Friday said the govt will partner with medical colleges across the state to provide services in govt hospitals in all districts.He was speaking at a function held at Govt Lady Goschen Hospital to hand over medical equipment worth Rs 68.8 lakh donated by the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.Rao said three medical colleges in Mangaluru have already agreed to offer services at four govt hospitals in Dakshina Kannada. In Tumakuru, the Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education (SSAHE), managed by the Sri Siddhartha Education Society headed by home minister G Parameshwara, will provide services at public health centres.A tie-up has been made between Yenepoya Medical College and the Vittal Community Health Centre to enhance healthcare services. Alva's Institution has agreed to provide services at Belthangady Taluk Hospital and Moodbidri Community Health Centre. Bantwal Taluk Hospital has entered into a partnership with AJ Institute of Medical Sciences, he said.Brushing aside allegations that the govt was succumbing to private medical college lobbies, Rao said there were no monetary terms involved. "There are no monetary terms in the tie-up and the government wants to ensure good healthcare and super-speciality services to poor patients. Discussions are on with the medical education department to have similar tie-ups with govt medical colleges too," he said.Praising the functioning of Lady Goschen Hospital, Rao said around 500 to 600 deliveries take place there every month and that surgeries and oncology services are also provided.He said KMC Hospital has agreed to provide an additional one lakh square feet of building space for Wenlock District Hospital. The govt has also completed the tender process for constructing a new OPD building at Wenlock Hospital.Hospital medical superintendent Dr Durgaprasad MR and others were present.
