Dindigul: Police on Tuesday incinerated approximately 1.2 tonnes of ganja, valued at 1.5 crore, at a private incineration facility in Pothaiyadi near Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district.Police sources said that the contraband, which was seized in connection with 290 different cases across Dindigul and Theni districts, was destroyed following a formal court order and under the direct supervision of deputy inspector general of police (Dindigul range) P Saminathan and Dindigul superintendent of police A Pradeep.

According to police officials, the destroyed contraband included 896.48kg of ganja seized from 198 cases in Dindigul district and 333.32kg from 92 cases in Theni district.Speaking to reporters, Saminathan emphasised that while Tamil Nadu does not have local cultivation of ganja, the drug is being smuggled in from other states. He further stated that the department intensified its surveillance and closely monitored interstate borders to curb the influx of contraband into the region.
