Commissioner inspects water supply, sanitation facilities in Madurai
Madurai: Corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar on Thursday inspected the Arasaradi Water Pumping Station, Amma Canteen facilities in Arapalayam, and several civic infrastructure projects across the city to review water supply, sanitation and public amenities.
At the Arasaradi Water Pumping Station, he inspected the daily supply of drinking water to corporation wards through tanker lorries. He reviewed chlorine levels, water-filling operations, and the functioning of GPS and sensor devices installed in vehicles. He also examined records related to water distribution schedules.
At the Amma Canteen in the Arapalayam-Melaponnagaram area, Kumar reviewed the daily menu, patronage and available amenities. He also inspected the central kitchen that prepares meals for corporation sanitation workers and reviewed food distribution arrangements across various zones.
During an inspection of Melaponnagaram, the commissioner directed officials to expedite the removal of garbage accumulated in the Chinthamani channel.
He later visited Aathimoolam Corporation Primary School in the Simmakkal-LNP Agraharam area, where he inspected drinking water and toilet facilities. He also reviewed renovation work at the historic Rani Mangammal Chathiram near the railway junction.
City health officer Arvind Jyoti, assistant commissioner Prabhakaran, engineers and other corporation officials accompanied him during the inspections.
