Coalition govt not suitable for TN; dissent in Cong for long: Vaiko
Madurai: MDMK general secretary Vaiko, on Thursday asserted that coalition govt is not suitable for the soil of Tamil Nadu, and that the DMK will form the next govt with its own majority.Vaiko was addressing reporters before chairing a meeting with party functionaries on election fund contribution in Madurai on Thursday.
To a question on Congress MP Manickam Tagore's demand for a share in power and allocation of more seats for Congress, Vaiko replied that opposition and dissent existed in the Congress party since the day the party was founded. It is not new, and DMK does not bother about it."We do not want to invite trouble and confusion; therefore, DMK on its own absolute majority will form the govt," he said, while insisting DMK not to give room for a coalition govt, and that kind of thinking should be totally ruled out.He also said that a final decision on the number of seats to be contested will be reached only after the MDMK negotiation committee holds talks with the DMK team.He stated that the party was not seeking funds from multi-millionaires or industrialists but was instead approaching the middle-class public for support. When asked if a Rajya Sabha seat would be allocated to the MDMK, he clarified that he personally had no expectation for a Rajya Sabha member post, though it is natural for party cadres to have such expectations.Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tamil Nadu, Vaiko called the Prime Minister a great tactician and remarked that one should learn from him how to deceive people. He asserted that even if the Prime Minister visits 33 times instead of just three, the BJP will not be able to gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu.Regarding actor Vijay's political entry, he stated that while youth may follow him due to cinematic charisma, there is nothing more to it.On environmental and social issues, Vaiko urged the Tamil Nadu govt not to allow the reopening of the Sterlite copper plant in Tuticorin.
