Warder provides barred articles to jail inmates

Ludhiana: Police have booked a jail warder for providing prohibited articles to jail inmates, who are often found with mobile phones, contraband and other prohibited articles. Jail inmates have also been booked in the past for peddling drugs and running a crime nexus inside the jail. The involvement of a jail staffer in facilitating entry of prohibited articles indicates that inmates are getting help inside. Assistant superintendent, Ludhiana Central Jail Harminder Singh said that during special checking inside the jail, they found four mobile phones and 25 sachets of tobacco from four inmates, Gagan Vij, Amandeep Singh, Paramvir Singh and Rustom. During questioning, the accused said that warder Deepak Kumar used to provide them with mobile phones and other contraband. Thereafter, the jail authority lodged a police complaint. Division number 7 police booked warder Deepak Kumar and inmates Gagan Vij, Amandeep, Paramvir Singh and Rustom. In the second case, jail staffers recovered three mobile phones from three inmates including Simran Singh, Parkash and Amanjot. In another case, the staffer found six mobile phones and 25 sachets of tobacco abandoned in the jail premises. ASI Rajinder Singh said that police would question Deepak to ascertain how he managed to take the contraband and mobiles inside the premises to provide it to inmates despite employees being frisked on entry to the jail. Police will also check if more people were involved in the nexus.
