Silver jubilee, golden memories as KGMU 2000 batch reunites
Lucknow: Laughter, warm embraces and a sense of belonging filled Brown Hall of KGMU on Saturday as MBBS 2000 batch came together to mark 25 years of friendship, learning and shared memories. The three-day reunion was less about formal speeches and more about nostalgia.On Second day, before the programme, alumni walked through corridors they hurried through as students. Dressed in coordinated colours—men in black suits with magenta ties and women in magenta sarees—they looked like one large family reunited after years, some travelling thousands of kilometres.
Anaesthesiologist in Manchester, Dr Pawan Kapoor, returned with his wife, Dr Parul Kapoor, a paediatric neuro-developmental clinician and their children. Dr Parul, recalled "Love Lane", now Dean's Office area, and the first vaccination she administered.Prof Shailendra Singh from Orthopaedics department recalled how students—especially girls—often fainted during dissections. "The sight and smell of the cadaver were overwhelming," he said. Anatomy teacher Dr P K Sharma added it was common for students to lose appetite for days because of that smell.Neurosurgeon in Canada, Dr Rajesh Sharma, spoke about training, evening classes and strong senior-junior bonds. Administrative Block, once a quiet corner for reflection, remains his favourite spot on campus.The reunion also celebrated relationships born within the university walls. Dr Payal Saxena recalled meeting her life partner at KGMU. In all, 13 couples from the batch—who found love during student years—attended the reunion together.ACMO Lucknow, Dr Sandeep Singh, spoke of looking ahead to the batch's golden jubilee, while senior urologist Prof Divakar Dalela was honoured as most loved teacher of 2000 batch. Of the 180 students who once studied together, 132 attended in person and two joined online.Planned over seven months, the reunion felt like a homecoming as the bond endured, said Dr Rakesh Dixit, faculty member in Pharmacology and former teacher.
