Repertwahr festival invites to sway in ‘silent disco’
Lucknow: Season 13 of the four-day Repertwahr Festival, scheduled between Dec 18 and 21 at Janeshwar Mishra Park, from 11 am to 10 pm daily, will for the first time feature a ‘Silent Disco', where people dance to music not blaring out of speakers but played on wireless headphones.
The music is broadcast via a radio transmitter and signal picked up by wireless headphone receivers worn by participants, allowing multiple DJs to run several channels simultaneously. Participants can switch between channels, controlling volume for an immersive, noiseless-to-outsiders experience.
Entitled ‘Taal', the silent disco will feature DJs including the winner of world's best DJ award in Poland Skipster, Lapataa and Sangria on Dec 19, Dec 20 and Dec 21. Founder of the festival Bhoopesh Rai said, "This time, we are coming up with more exciting sessions and double enjoyment and laughter, so we welcome everyone to take part in the festival".
To celebrate Lucknow's recognition as ‘Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy', a vibrant food bazaar will be set up featuring iconic dishes that define the city's culinary identity, reflecting its rich and living food culture.
The event will also showcase Lucknow's journey from heritage to modernity through a special installation displaying the historic Clock Tower (Ghantaghar), once the city's tallest structure, alongside a proposed 47-storey building, symbolising contemporary Lucknow.
Literature and theatre will add further depth to the celebrations, with a literature stage creatively designed around doors and windows, inspired by the idea that books open the heart and mind. Despite being held in an open area, a specially created theatre will provide a full black box theatre experience with seating for around 800 people, wooden flooring and stage, hanging heaters to keep audiences warm.
Comedians Gaurav Gupta, Gurleen Pannu and Aakash Gupta will entertain on different days.
There will be a play on each of four days, including ‘Vodka and No Tonic', featuring Lillete Dubey and ‘Mohan Ka Masla' with Pratik Gandhi. Plays will be staged under a tent where heaters will be installed.
For classical music lovers, sitarist Chandulal Kalburgi will present folk fusion. Folk music group, ‘The Aahvaan Project' from Delhi, will combine their music with storytelling.
Pop music lovers can enjoy performances by Indie pop singer and songwriter Anuv Jain and chartered accountant turned singer Justh will render his deep, touching and universally relatable songs.
Musical dastangoi on life of Sufi poet Amir Khusrau will be presented by Ajitesh Gupta and Mohit Aggarwal on the second day. Dastangoi by Himanshu Bajpai and Pragya Mishra is the highlight of the third day.
A young poet known for his blend of humour and poetic flair, Badal Sharma will entertain audiences with his ‘ashaar' (verses) on the third day and poet Waseem Barelvi will recite ‘kalams' and ‘nazms' on the concluding day.
Apart from entertaining sessions, there are 50 stalls offering jewellery, handicraft, home decor, accessories, souvenirs, books, footwear and food. There will be workshops for all age groups on sneaker painting, tote bag painting and clay pottery making. Additionally, there will be a kids zone where various games and swings will keep children busy.
