BIJNOR: A 34-year-old man, Mohd Afzal from Noorpur in Bijnor, was found dead on the road near the district's Gohawar village on Monday night. Police took the body and it initially appeared to be a
road accident.
But things took a different turn when a postmortem was performed which suggested "death due to strangulation".
Following subsequent investigations, police arrested a suspect, Mohd Nazim, a resident of Gohawar, who later confessed that he had a land dispute with the victim.
Police said on Monday night Nazim called Afzal to his place and both had drinks together. When Afzal was inebriated, Nazim strangled him to death and dumped the body along the road to make it look like an accident, police added.
Police have arrested the accused and registered a case against him under IPC section 302 (
murder). Bijnor SP,
Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, said on Tuesday, "The accused was picked up by police on Monday night. He confessed to his crime and was sent to jail."
