LUCKNOW: Several people were injured and 18 vehicles were set afire and over 150 others damaged when a violent mob went on the rampage and clashed with the police near the high court and district court premises in Lucknow on Wednesday.
The incident occurred after lawyers associated with various bar associations announced to boycott work at 11 am, protesting against the murder of advocate Sharawan Verma on Tuesday night and demanding ar rest of the guilty as well as compensation for Verma's family.
Police reacted late but brought the situation under control by 4pm. The sight around the premises resembled a riot torn area - the road was full of burning tyres and shanties, broken four and two wheelers, and bricks strewn all around.
Eyewitnesses recalled how a violent mob comprising hundreds of people went berserk reducing government and public property worth crores to ashes.
