LU introduces new sub-category for part-time PhD aspirants
Lucknow: Lucknow University has introduced a new sub-category, ‘outstanding work professional’, for candidates seeking admission to part-time PhD courses. This sub-category is for candidates who have made substantial contribution in their respective field of occupation.
These candidates will have to pay Rs 1.52 lakh per annum as fee. This is three times of Rs 52,530 per annum fees for ordinary part time PhD candidates.
“We have divided the part-time PhD into two categories. The outstanding professional category has been introduced so that there is no age or years-of-service bar for young professionals who are doing good work in their field. For remaining employees, we have Category 1,” said LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava. There will be separate online application forms for these two sub-categories.
For admission to all the 1,434 PhD seats across 43 departments, LU opened the applications window on Thursday. The deadline for submitting the application form is June 30. Candidates must apply online through the Samarth Portal available on the Lucknow University website.
There are three PhD programme categories: full-time research scholar, part-time research scholar (it has two sub-categories) and international (foreigner) research scholar.
According to new PhD ordinance, the university will admit full-time PhD scholars in three phases. In the first phase, candidates who have qualified fellowships such as UGC-JRF, CSIR-JRF, ICAR, ICMR, DBT-JRF or AICTE doctoral fellowship will be granted admission on the basis of an interview.
In the second, candidates with UGC-NET or CSIR-NET (for assistant professor or PhD admission) will be called for admissions through interviews.
Finally, in the third phase candidates will be admitted to remaining seats through the Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by the university.
