Health dept on alert as heatwave intensifies
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh health department has sounded alert over the prevailing heatwave conditions and directed hospitals and medical institutions across the state to strengthen preparations to deal with any rise in heat-related illnesses. Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Tuesday issued instructions to all divisional, district, joint, urban and rural hospitals, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, sub-centres, medical colleges and other healthcare institutions to remain fully prepared amid soaring temperatures.
Officials have been asked to ensure availability of additional beds, adequate stocks of medicines and emergency medical support facilities for patients suffering from heatstroke, dehydration and other heat-related complications. Doctors, paramedical staff and emergency response teams have also been directed to stay alert to tackle any sudden medical emergency.
Pathak instructed hospital authorities to make proper arrangements for safe drinking water for patients and attendants on hospital premises. Healthcare facilities have also been asked to put in place measures to protect visitors from harsh sunlight and extreme heat, including shaded waiting areas and cooling arrangements wherever possible.
The deputy CM directed district authorities to inform state headquarters and govt immediately in case of sudden spike in number of heatwave or disaster-related patients in any district.
