From Kumbh to Amrit Udyan, UP takes elderly on special visits
Lucknow: Under its programme to provide a decent and positive life to senior citizens living in state-run old age homes, UP govt took 2,493 senior citizens to various religious, cultural and historical sites between 2022 and 2026.
“Recently, 211 elderly residents of these homes from Delhi NCR districts were taken on a special visit to the Amrit Udyan at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, where they enjoyed the garden’s beauty, greenery and serene environment,” said an official of the social welfare department, which runs the old age homes.
In 2025, the department also facilitated the visit of 1,515 senior citizens to the Prayagraj Mahakumbh, where they could take a dip in the Sangam. In addition to this, 767 residents of these homes also took a bath in the Sangam during the Magh Mela of 2026.
The official added that the initiative is not limited to large-scale tours. “We ensure that the residents of old-age homes across districts are also regularly taken to nearby temples, religious sites and places of interest. These visits help maintain their enthusiasm, reduce feelings of loneliness and foster a positive outlook toward life,” he said.
