Driverless metro expansion
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation is set to introduce fully driverless metro train services on the upcoming East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro, taking inspiration from the driverless operations already running on select corridors of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Tender for advanced trains
UPMRC has floated tenders for the design and manufacturing of 15 advanced metro train sets along with modern signalling systems for Phase 1-B of the East-West Corridor, marking a major technological upgrade for public transport in Uttar Pradesh.
Fully automated operations
The upcoming trains will operate in unattended train operation mode, allowing fully automated train movement without the need for drivers inside the coaches, while all operations will be monitored centrally through the Operations Control Centre. (All Images used for representational purpose only)
Smart train control system
The trains will use communication-based train control technology that can automatically manage train speed, braking and station stoppages, helping improve punctuality, operational efficiency and passenger safety across the corridor.
Enhanced safety mechanism
The automated system will continuously maintain a safe gap between trains and can automatically apply brakes in case of emergencies or operational disruptions, reducing the possibility of human error and enhancing reliability of services.
AI-based predictive maintenance
The corridor will also feature AI-based predictive maintenance systems integrated with a computerised maintenance management platform that will analyse real-time train data to detect faults and maintenance needs before technical failures occur.
Passenger comfort features
Metro coaches on the new corridor will include livestreaming-enabled infotainment screens for passenger information and announcements, along with sensor-based air-conditioning systems equipped with CO2 sensors that adjust cooling levels according to passenger load to improve comfort and reduce electricity consumption.
