FIR filed over ‘misleading’ social media post on UP’s SI job exam results

Lucknow: The UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) has initiated legal action against a social media user for allegedly spreading fabricated and misleading information regarding the written examination results of the UP Police sub-inspector direct recruitment-2025 examination.

According to an official statement issued by the board, a post uploaded on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) from the handle 'ADV RK Rajput’ (User ID: @rakesh_w07) allegedly contained false and misleading claims related to the SI recruitment examination results currently being processed by the board.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the board lodged an FIR on May 12, 2026, at Hussainganj police station under the Lucknow commissionerate. The case has been registered as case crime no. 68/2026 under sections 221, 292 and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with section 66D of the Information Technology Act.

Police officials said further legal proceedings are being carried out in the matter and the social media content is being examined as part of the investigation.

In its statement, the recruitment board strongly cautioned individuals against posting or circulating unverified allegations, rumours or misleading information on social media platforms regarding the recruitment process, examination results or functioning of the board without any factual or documentary basis.

Officials said that such misleading posts create unnecessary confusion and anxiety among candidates appearing in competitive examinations and can adversely affect the transparency and credibility of the recruitment process.

The board said that if any person possesses factual information, documentary proof or credible evidence regarding any alleged irregularity or issue connected with the recruitment examination, the same should be formally submitted before the board through proper channels instead of being circulated publicly on social media.

The UPPRPB also appealed to candidates and aspirants preparing for the SI recruitment examination to remain cautious of fake, misleading or unverified social media posts and rely only on official notifications, press releases and updates issued by the board.
