Farmers to get relief for loss to horticulture crop
Lucknow: The state govt has ordered swift assessment of horticultural crop and orchards affected by adverse weather conditions and timely provision of relief to farmers.
Minister of state (independent charge) for horticulture, agricultural marketing, agricultural foreign trade and agricultural exports Dinesh Pratap Singh on Tuesday said that necessary proposals regarding disaster relief management should be forwarded immediately, through the respective district officials and in accordance with govt orders, to ensure that affected farmers receive due compensation. He asked the district horticulture officers to ensure timely and effective action in this regard.
The minister convened a meeting to discuss the provision of compensation, under the framework of disaster relief management, for damage sustained by horticultural crops due to various adverse weather conditions.
It was also decided during the meeting that in cases where rules regarding the compensation are unclear, or where the prescribed financial assistance is deemed insufficient, proposals would be submitted to the relief commissioner to ensure appropriate action is taken, thereby enabling the timely provision of relief to affected farmers.
While reviewing the various horticultural development schemes being implemented by the department, the minister also asked for publicity and transparent implementation of the schemes at the district level to maximise benefits for eligible farmers.
