LUCKNOW: Expressing concern over regular traffic bottlenecks in Lucknow and other major cities of the state, Governor Ram Naik called for a concerted move to check the traffic menace.
With increase in number of vehicles plying on roads, traffic jams is a growing problem in Lucknow and other major cities of the state, and the issue needs immediate attention, he said. Naik was speaking at the Police Ceremonial Parade organized at Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow on Friday morning.
He said the problem must be tackled by engaging manpower and use of technology in order to reach a long-term solution. He said that although crime control should be a priority for the police, traffic management should not be neglected as it affects a larger number of people, on a daily basis.
The Governor also highlighted the fact that traffic snarls not only cause grave inconvenience to the common people but also add to the air and noise pollution.
He also underlined the need for focusing on basic policing concepts like regular foot patrol in residential areas. “Such practices should not only be regularly monitored but also structured and modified as per the need of the areas, where it is being undertaken,“ he said.
