‘Department on road to recovery’

LUCKNOW: The energy department is suffering losses worth Rs 21,000cr, said energy minister Shrikant Sharma on Friday. “What we inherited was a dilapidated system of transmission and distribution network. Everytime there was a rain or a thunderstorm, the cable would break or transformer would stop running. We have rectified a large part of it,” he said. He said that 5,68,000 new connections had been given by his government in the past 100 days and more than 8,000 transformers upgraded. “We were given the target by the chief

minister

that villages should get supply between 7pm till 5am and we are realizing it,” he said. The department will hold camps to provide free connections to

BPL

consumers.
