State Congress chief slams UP govt for ‘no FIR, no bulldozer action’ in tragedy
Lucknow: Terming the action taken in the Jhansi medical college tragedy as a mere eyewash, UP Congress president Ajay Rai demanded resignation from deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the health and family welfare portfolio. Accusing the state govt of saving the real wrongdoers, Rai said that the incident was an outcome of the "corruption and casual approach to work that have become the order of the day".
"The fire fiasco took a toll on 17 babies while leaving a scar on the hearts and minds of their family members. The action taken by the UP govt is nothing more than an eyewash. The govt has not even lodged an FIR against anyone in the case," Rai said, demanding Pathak's resignation. "Nothing has been done to check the corruption, and the culture of a casual approach to work is yet to be addressed. The said culture is fostered by the UP govt in the department, which is represented by the DyCM, who must resign from his post," he said. Rai also said that the UP govt, known for resorting to bulldozer action even in trivial matters, has simply washed its hands of a tragedy of this scale. "Why hasn't Yogiji instructed bulldozing the homes of the officials responsible for the tragedy? It is well known that principal Senger is close to the powers that be, and he must be terminated from services," stated Rai, who also visited the incident site. TNN
