Charan Singh was messiah of farmers: Yogi pays tribute to former PM on death anniv
Lucknow: Paying heartfelt tribute to Bharat Ratna recipient Chaudhary Charan Singh on the occasion of his death anniversary, chief minister Yogi Adityanath termed the former Prime Minister a great son of Mother India and a messiah of the farmers.
Yogi, who offered tributes to Charan Singh at the Vidhan Bhawan complex, said that his govt was implementing various programmes aimed at the welfare of farmers to keep the legacy and memories of Chaudhary Charan Singh alive.
A significant initiative in this regard, he said, was the construction of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Seed Park in Lucknow. “Beyond being a prominent national politician, he made profound contributions to both the nation and society,” the chief minister said, crediting Charan Singh with numerous reforms in the agriculture and revenue sectors.
Yogi said that the former Prime Minister was actively involved in the country’s freedom struggle. “It was his firm conviction that the path to national development runs through the villages, fields and threshing floors,” he said.
The chief minister asserted that farmers must be an integral part of the development agenda and the govt’s priorities. Governance schemes, he emphasised, should be formulated with the farmers’ interests at the forefront.
Present on the occasion were cabinet minister Swatantra Dev Singh, minister of state KP Malik, mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Rajya Sabha MP Brij Lal, MLAs Neeraj Bora and Amresh Kumar, and MLCs Lalji Prasad Nirmal, Ramchandra Pradhan and Umesh Dwivedi, among others.
