Samastha faction forms new platform
Kozhikode: In a move that will worsen the rift in Samastha, the pro- IUML faction established a new platform to counter the campaigns conducted by the anti-IUML faction. The faction met at Nalanda auditorium and formed an organization ‘Sunni Adarsha Samrakshana Samiti' and constituted its ad hoc committee with Moideen Faizi Puthanazhi as chairman, Onampilly Muhammad Faizi as convener and Ibrahim Haji Wayanad as treasurer.
A decision was taken to form district-level committees in December. The meeting also passed a resolution demanding the removal of Umar Faizi Mukkam from Samastha Mushavara committee and other posts for insulting prominent figures. Faizi had questioned the eligibility of IUML state chief Panakkad Sadikali Shihab Thangal to become the qazi of mahals.
Another resolution condemned the actions taken to create a rift between IUML and Samastha. The resolution said that Samastha's daily, Suprabhatham, is deviating from the policies and values of the organization, forcing Samastha leadership to keep a distance. The resolution said that a communal ad published in Suprabhatham during Palakkad bypoll put Samastha's leadership and workers in a difficult position and sought steps to realign the newspaper with its foundational policies.
MC Mayin Haji, Abdussamad Pookkottur, and Onampilly Muhammad Faizi told reporters that the committee was formed in response to the stand taken by a faction against IUML and Panakkad family. He said the other faction was using the ongoing ‘Adarsha Sammelanams' to criticize IUML and Sadikali Shihab Thangal and the aim of the new platform was to make the public aware of this move.
