Was in touch with RG Kar victim’s dad after mom got hurt: Kunal

Kolkata: Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh on Sunday said he had been in touch with the parents of the RG Kar victim while they were marching to Nabanna on Saturday, after an X post by him triggered a wave of claims and counterclaims.Ghosh said the victim's father had initiated a conversation with him on text at 5:49pm which ended at 6:11pm, and Ghosh had responded to him, and also shared a video grab of the moment when the victim's mother was injured. The victim's mother had been injured during the march and was taken to a hospital off EM Bypass around 4pm. The purported conversation as claimed by Ghosh closely followed.The Trinamool spokesperson said: "I would have refrained from sharing personal conversations with the victim's parents. But I am forced to do it after their barrage of falsehoods against this. In the morning, I shared a video on X showing a BJP neta with the victim's parents in his haste to show his face to the camera, pushing them.""I heard that the victim's father not only questioned it but stated that I sent that video to him personally. That is not a fact. In fact, he texted me asking for the video. And in our conversations, he did not term it to be fake," Ghosh told reporters, showing his cell phone screen.While Ghosh did not name anyone while insinuating that a BJP member might have pushed the victim's mother potentially leading to the injury, BJP's Koustuv Bagchi refuted the allegation and called Ghosh's statements an attempt to save the police. "It only shows their (Trinamool's) insensitivity," he said.Later in the day, the victim's father spoke up for Bagchi. He said: "I know Koustuv much longer than I know Kunal Ghosh. Koustuv was a friend of the person with whom my daughter was to get married. He had been coming to our home for a long time. He is like a son. It's an outright lie that he did anything to harm us." He also questioned the veracity of the video shared by Ghosh but did not confirm or deny that he was in conversation with the Trinamool spokesperson.Ghosh said: "We are extremely sensitive to the (condition of) the parents. But they must realise that they are being used as political pawns and parroted to say something every day. Political statements will evoke political replies."
